Try to make your model feel comfortable, particularly if you just met them. Some people may feel threatened by the person taking their photograph, making them uneasy. Help your model to relax by keeping a friendly atmosphere, and the mood upbeat. Also, seek their permission before you start taking their picture. Make people understand photography is an art rather than an invasion of their privacy.
Fluorescent Lighting
You need to make sure that you have the right white balance setting on your camera if you are taking pictures under fluorescent lighting. Photographs shot under fluorescent lighting typically look greenish or bluish, giving your photo a much cooler color effect than you intended.

Add interest to a photograph by adjusting the focus at different points. If your background is brighter than your subject, you will be able to see a silhouette. Having a beautiful silhouette can be as simple as positioning the flash away from the camera, behind the subject you are photographing. A bright light outside a window can also produce similar results. Keep in mind that outlines on a face or body may highlight some unpleasant features.
